the Dollhouse of Lita de Ranitz

In 2013 we commissioned by the Hague Historical Museum and in cooperation with wood, glass, textile restorers and the interior and exterior of the dollhouse restored.

This dollhouse is a display cabinet with six rooms that give a very detailed image of a Hague villa from the early twentieth century. The web publisher a noble lady Hague: Jonkvrouwe Lita the Rantiz. She founded the dollhouse and traveled with her friend Marie Auguste of Hogendorp through Europe hunting for furniture and other pieces for her dollhouse. Numerous well-known artists managed to acquire Lita miniature paintings. So hang in various rooms works of Louis Apol, Johan Bartold Jongkind, Floris Arntzenius, Jan Toorop, Willem Elisa Roelofs, Willem Bastiaan Tholen and many others. *

First we worked on repairing cracks and holes in the wall of the different rooms. The floors we have treated. The floors are made of paper, usually painted with a pattern of tiles and over that a coat of shellac to finish. The floor in the hallway downstairs example, was going very bubble. In the passage above the surface was damaged. In the sitting room (top left) were cracks and discolouration in white striped wallpaper.

After treatment of the interior were the furniture and various objects turn. We have handled objects such as books, pads, framed watercolors, chairs with leather upholstery, lamps with paper caps and other items. In the treatment of the objects are of the same types of materials and adhesives used as we use for “large” objects. We make extensive use of self-colored Japanese paper, starch and methylcellulose glue.

In the autumn of 2014 all restorations will be completed and there will be a ‘housewarming’ held in The Hague Historical Museum.
